Our Departmental Profile

The Facilities Management and Development Department at SUNY Downstate Medical Center is comprised of a diverse group of multitalented individuals with backgrounds ranging in Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical Design, Project Management, Code Compliance, Environmental Health and Safety, and Building Services. Our highly diverse background is a major reason why our department is uniquely qualified to handle requests for services internally. Our main office is located in the Basic Science Building room1-15.

Our Responsibility

Facilities Management & Development is responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of all SUNY Downstate Medical Center buildings and grounds which totals in excess of 2,500,000 gross square feet. The department is subdivided into four primary divisions:Physical Plant, Design and Construction, Environmental Health & Safety.

We take tremendous pride in continuously maintaining the highest standards possible in providing a safe, comfortable, and clean environment for all staff, students, patients, and faculty at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Campus Construction Activity Updates:

  • 14496-02 BSB Sprinkler Upgrade Project
    • Contractors continue working both early morning and after hours inside the BSB. Personnel will continue working on the sprinkler branch piping system in the BSB Basement offices. Building Staff and occupants will see notifications posted in the affected office areas.
  • 14496-01 BSB Stacks Replacement Project
    • Planned scheduled shutdowns of Laboratory Fume hoods in several areas of the BSB continue. Please contact your Department Staff administrator for the schedule of affected areas. The contractor also anticipates delivering materials in the early-morning hours this week through BSB Elevator 17.
  • 14490 BSB Electrical Upgrade
    • Contractors efforts to install piping inside BSB Basement level corridors for riser backbone continue during the evening hours.
  • 14B17 Boiler Replacement Project
    • Site preparations are being planned for excavation inside the Receiving ramp areaway. The Contractor will also work off hours in the BSB Basement level removing existing ceilings in the Elevator Lobby to access pipes.
  • 14A91 PHAB / NAB Project
    • BSB 1st floor weekend Lobby work continues. During the off-hours, occupants will be diverted to other floors to avoid construction area during that time. The 1st floor will not be serviced by Elevators 15 and 16.
