SUNY Downstate Medical Center

Office of Diversity & Inclusion

March is Women's History Month at SUNY Downstate

In celebration of National Women's History month, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Diversity Education and Research sponsored a lecture and awards ceremony to honor 7 dynamic women at Downstate for their contribution to promoting diversity and inclusion. It is important that we recognize women in the Downstate community who champion the cause of diversity through their teaching, patient care, administrative duties, and service.

During the 2017 ceremony, we honored the memory of Dr. Dale Blackstock, a physician, advocate, and mentor who was committed to promoting diversity and inclusion at Downstate. The late Dr. Dale Blackstock was an attending physician and Nephrologist in the Department of Medicine at Downstate. As an attending physician, she took great pride in providing clinical care in the same community in which she was raised and was involved in advocacy and initiatives that bridged the medical center and the community it served. Her daughters, Uche and Oni Blackstock, also physicians, helped to commemorate this event.

We celebrate the legacy of Dr. Blackstock by honoring
the following women who passionately serve the Downstate community:
