Prenatal Care Provider Project (PreCARE)

PreCARE provides comprehensive training and technical assistance to select New York State hospitals and other health care facilities on improving their rates of prenatal counseling and testing and enhancing the quality of prenatal HIV counseling services. Staff trainers conduct an extensive needs assessment with each site to analyze its current HIV counseling services and to tailor each training session to the site's specific requirements. Training is conducted on-site at targeted agencies or at SUNY Downstate. The target audience may include obstetricians, nurse midwives, nurses, HIV counselors, social work staff, and administrative staff. The project is funded by the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute.
