SUNY Downstate Medical Center
Department of Neurology
Residents are required to complete a scholarly project of their choosing and publish their work. The department of neurology has ample faculty-led projects in which residents can participate. Residents are also encouraged to initiate their own work.
SUNY Downstate is also one of the few neurology departments in the country which participates in the NIH-funded R25 research program intended to train future physician scientists.
Residents funded through the R25 grant are allotted 9 months of dedicated research time without prolonging their total training time.
Previous R25 Research Grant recipients:
- 2013-2014, Qing Hao - "Validation of a new diagnostic scoring system of TCD for intracranial atherosclerosis"
- 2012-2013, Diana Rojas-Sotos - "A pilot study using near infrared spectroscopy of brain oxygen levels in women with HIV"
