Dr. Vivian Chin is board certified in pediatric endocrinology and general pediatrics. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Chin practices and has privileges at SUNY Downstate and Kings County Hospital Center. She is also involved in the Downstart Healthy Lifestyle program for overweight and obese children.

Research Interests:

Her areas of interest include diabetes, obesity, bariatric surgery, PCOS and disorders of sexual development. Her previous fellowship projects involved studying women with PCOS to investigate the association between androgen excess and inflammatory markers in subcutaneous fat and serum, adolescents undergoing laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) or vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) as treatment options for morbid obesity, and clinical and phenotypic features of girls with PCOS in the bariatric surgery program. Similarly, she also studied clinical features of boys in the bariatric surgery program with low testosterone levels, a common finding among the morbidly obese adolescent population. She had presented this work at the Endocrine Society as well as the Pediatric Endocrine Society national meetings annually.

She has also published a study on the diagnostic use of leuprolide stimulation test for central precocious puberty in young girls. She was involved in writing up a unique case of complete androgen insensitivity syndrome with a novel mutation in the androgen receptor gene.

Currently, she is involved in several clinical research projects studying the screening for comorbid conditions in type 1 diabetes, treatment of children with Hashimoto's thyroiditis with vitamin D deficiency, endothelial dysfunction in obese and diabetic children, factors in metabolically unhealthy children, and performance of A1c against OGTT for diagnosis of prediabetes in overweight children.
