Dr. Christina Guillén Named to 2023 SUNY Hispanic Leadership Institute Class
By Office of The President | Nov 29, 2022
Congratulations to Christina Guillén, M.D., FAAP, on her selection as a Fellow for the SUNY Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI) Class of 2023.
Dr. Christina Guillén is a proud first-generation Dominican American and serves as the Program Director for the Pediatric Residency Program and Director of Community Pediatrics here at Downstate. She has dedicated her career to advocacy and has an immeasurable commitment to addressing health disparities within various communities in Brooklyn.
Dr. Guillén oversees community outreach projects within the department of Pediatrics and collaborates with community-based organizations in New York City. This passion for health equity makes her a perfect choice for the HLI class.
Dr. Guillén will join eight other Fellows in a rigorous six-month experience for SUNY leaders of Hispanic descent that provides an opportunity to develop higher education leadership skills and proficiencies further. The HLI fellows will participate in training sessions and webinars, converse with national and statewide Hispanic leaders, and use personal assessment tools. HLI creates a pipeline for professional opportunities across SUNY, ensuring alumni network and receive ongoing support and mentorship.
The SUNY Hispanic Leadership Institute is designed to identify, develop, recruit, and ultimately support, retain, and foster the success of Hispanic/Latinx leaders at the University President and President’s Cabinet level (Provosts, Chief Financial Officers, and Chief Business Officers.) The Fellows represent 27 SUNY campuses from all four sectors and System Administration and a wide variety of areas of the university and positions.
We congratulate Dr. Guillén and look forward to her continued advocacy in addressing health disparities within the community and beyond.
