Family Medicine Clinic Opens in New Location under “Downstate Health” Brand
By Office of the President | Apr 2, 2024
After nearly three decades, SUNY Downstate has moved its Lefferts Clinic into a new facility located at 253 Empire Boulevard. Now known as the Family Medicine Clinic (FMC), under the Downstate Health sub-brand, the new location boasts 7,700 square feet, a significant increase from the previous facility of just over 5,000 square feet.
Now, with 12 patient care exam rooms and a dedicated procedure room, the facility is well-equipped to accommodate a variety of medical services. Among the comprehensive offerings are primary care for adults, geriatrics, and children, as well as women’s health services and family planning. The facility also provides social work services, mental health counseling, chronic disease management, and cancer screening, ensuring holistic care for patients.
To serve the community better, the new Family Medicine Clinic offers extended hours on evenings and Saturdays, with plans to extend hours in alignment with recruitment efforts.
The FMC accepts various insurance plans in addition to Medicaid and Medicare. Uninsured individuals receive support, education, and guidance, including assistance in verifying eligibility and qualifications. An on-site representative will help with member enrollment, PCP changes, recertification, and general inquiries, ensuring a smooth experience for all patients.
The new Family Medicine Clinic will provide treatment for a wide array of dermatologic, musculoskeletal, gynecologic, and respiratory ailments.
