College of Medicine and School of Graduate Studies Celebrate Convocation and Awards Ceremony

More than 190 awards were recently presented to College of Medicine and School of Graduate Studies students and faculty at the May Convocation and Awards Ceremony, celebrating and acknowledging each student’s work.

Jeffrey S. Putman, Ed.D., Academic, and Student Affairs Vice President and F. Charles Brunicardi, M.D., FACS, College of Medicine Dean, brought greetings and introductions. The presentation of awards was led by David Christini, Ph.D., School of Graduate Studies Interim Dean, and Hillary Michelson, Ph.D., The Robert F. Furchgott Society President, and Dean Brunicardi.

In addition to congratulation on the multiple awards many students received, which you can view in the program.  I would like to acknowledge Samuel Gedailovich and Jennifer Wang, who received Honorable Mention, and Adem Idrizi, the Recipient of the Robert F. Furchgott Medical Student Research Award; and to the Robert F. Furchgott Award for Excellence in Research to Craig Kelly.

I salute the recipients of the American Medical Women’s Association/Glasgow-Rubin Certificates of Commendation, who are among the top ten percent of women in the 2024 graduating class. They are Nicole Ackerman, Sonali Bhat, Kaitlynne Cunningham, Jacqueline DiSalvatore, Sophie Eldred, Jennifer Gottfried, Kelsey Hackett, Eun Kyeong Hwang, Agnes Jiang, Alexandria Krauss, Sneha Patel, Perri Vingan, Katty Wu, and Sylvia Zielenski.

The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was presented to Jessica Mineroff and Timothy Morello.

Excellence in Medical Foundations Education Award

This award is determined based on course evaluations completed by the second-year class and reviewed by a Dean’s committee. It honors exceptional teaching during the Foundation Years.

Excellence in Clinical Education Award

This award is determined based on course evaluations completed during the clinical years and reviewed by a Dean’s committee. It honors exceptional teaching during the Clinical Years.

Recipient: Isabel McFarlane, M.D.

Hugh J. Carroll, M.D. Award for Clinical Excellence

A skilled clinical teacher of medicine embodies two significant attributes: the science of medicine (conveying essential knowledge for diagnosing and treating diseases) and the art of medicine (showing deep compassion for patients and fostering humanistic attitudes in students).
