CCNE Board Elects Dean Lori Escallier as its Incoming Chair

Congratulations to Lori Escallier, Ph.D., RN, CPNP-PC, FAAN, Dean and Professor of the College of Nursing, on her election as Chair of the Commission
on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Board of Commissioners, effective January 1,
2025. This prestigious role places Dr. Escallier at the helm of the premier accrediting
body for nursing programs in the United States. It operates as an autonomous accrediting
agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to ensure the quality and integrity
of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency nursing programs.
With a nearly forty-year career, Dr. Escallier is a pivotal figure in nursing education as an educator and a mentor. Her seven years as Dean of Downstate’s College of Nursing are marked by significant achievements, including securing critical grants to support student programs and fostering innovative educational strategies for diverse student populations. Her work has garnered national recognition from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
As Chair of the CCNE Board of Commissioners, Dr. Escallier will oversee policy and accreditation matters for nursing programs across the country, ensuring that educational standards remain rigorous and aligned with the evolving needs of healthcare. The 13-member board, which she will guide, is responsible for safeguarding the integrity and quality of nursing education.
Dr. Escallier is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the New York Academy of Medicine. She is an active member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and appointed member of the Governmental Affairs Committee. These appointments reflect her ongoing dedication to the nursing profession and her commitment to advancing healthcare nationwide.
