SUNY Downstate Nursing Leader Lori Escallier Named Chair of The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education

Brooklyn, NY – SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University today announced that Lori Escallier, Ph.D., RN, CPNP-PC, FAAN, Dean and Professor, College of Nursing, SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University (Downstate), has been elected Chair of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Board of Commissioners. She will assume the role of Chair on January 1, 2025.

Our collective efforts will continue to foster innovation, uphold rigorous quality standards, and support the development of future leaders in nursing and healthcare," said Dr. Escallier.
For nearly four decades, Dr. Escallier has served as an educator and mentor in the field of nursing. As Dean of the Downstate College of Nursing for the last seven years, Dr. Escallier has secured numerous grants to support programs and students at the university and has developed educational engagement strategies for diverse students that have been nationally recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).
In her role as Chair of the CCNE Board of Commissioners, the final authority on all policy and accreditation matters affecting CCNE, Dr. Escallier will lead representatives of the 13-member board, guiding its activities and ensuring effective governance.
In addition to serving on the CCNE, Dr. Escallier is a member of the American Academy of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the New York Academy of Medicine.
